This stocky little fish props itself on soft bottoms with thickened lower fin rays, living from shallow water down to about 300 metres. Its flesh is edible but nobody bothers to fish it. Like other horsefishes it has a steep, blunt face and a sloping body that reads almost as a hunched posture.
