Herringbone Hydroid

This hydroid grows in a stiff, feathery colony whose branches sit in two neat rows, giving the herringbone pattern its name. It anchors on sand and hard ground in shallow water and on down past three hundred metres, each tiny polyp catching drifting plankton.
