Like other icefish of the Southern Ocean, the unicorn icefish has no haemoglobin and runs colourless blood, an adaptation to frigid, oxygen rich Antarctic water. It lives on the bottom from near shore down past seven hundred and fifty metres, eats mostly fish and the odd mouthful of algae, and reaches about sixty centimetres.
