A tiny bottom dweller of sub Antarctic shores, the Magellan plunderfish hides in tide pools, under rocks and among kelp, mostly in shallow water down to about fifty metres. It grows to only ten centimetres and feeds on small crustaceans, and is common along the littoral of the southern islands.
