A small cold water skate of the deep sea floor, this species lays oblong egg capsules with stiff horns at each corner, anchoring them in sandy or muddy flats. Newly hatched young may trail behind large objects, even their own mother. It often turns up in deep bottom trawls but is little used because of its modest size.
