A scaly rockcod of Antarctic waters, this fish is most common below 300 metres and ranges down past 1,000. Adults feed mostly on amphipods, hunting errant worms and small fish to round out the diet. It belongs to the icefish group whose blood carries antifreeze proteins against the freezing cold.
