Lingcod
Ophiodon elongatus
- Group: Other
- Typical depth: 0–475 m
- Max size: 1.5 m
- For divers: dangerous
A big toothy ambush predator of the North Pacific, the lingcod reaches over a metre and a half and hunts mostly other fish, along with octopus and crabs. Adults hold close to rocky reefs from the shallows to deep water, while the young start out on sand and mud. A guarding male will lunge at divers who get too near his egg mass, so handle with respect.
