A nocturnal sea cucumber of coral reefs, seagrass beds and rubble flats down to about 54 metres, this species hides by day and emerges at night to graze. It swallows sand and algal turf, digesting the organic film and passing clean grains back out, and it can stretch to around 35 centimetres.
