Halloween Hermit Crab

Ciliopagurus strigatus

Halloween Hermit Crab

Bright orange and red banding across its legs earns this hermit crab the Halloween name, and it lives in coral reefs, rock platforms and rubble from the intertidal down to around ninety metres. It gnaws on coral and tucks its soft body into a borrowed snail shell.
