A tiny sculpin of the northern coast, the shortmast sculpin lives near shore over sand and rock down to about seventy metres, often in shallow, exposed spots. It grows to only eight centimetres and, like other sculpins, sits propped on broad pectoral fins waiting for small prey to pass.
