A broad headed sculpin of cool North Pacific rocky shores, the red Irish lord blends into the reef with mottled red and brown skin. It lurks among rocks from the intertidal down to about 275 metres and crunches through crabs, barnacles and mussels. Like other sculpins it has a big head and tapering body and lies still until prey comes close.
