A stout, big headed sculpin of the North Pacific, the plain sculpin lives on sand and mud bottoms from the intertidal down to around eighty metres, rarely deeper than a hundred and fifty. It reaches about seventy four centimetres and ambushes prey from the bottom in the usual sculpin way.
