This silvery whitefish gathers near river mouths and brackish lagoons before running upstream to spawn, a journey during which it apparently stops feeding. The rest of the year it eats invertebrates and small sculpins, and reaches about 36 centimetres. Some populations spend their lives moving between salt and fresh water.
