Faint dark bars cross the back of this houndshark, which patrols the continental shelf from surf swept beaches into deeper water. Pups stay in water just a few metres deep, juveniles move offshore, and adults range down to about 250 metres on the upper slope. It is critically endangered, and likely feeds on crustaceans and other bottom invertebrates.
