A slender greybrown shark of the eastern Pacific shelf, the brown smoothhound hunts crabs, ghost shrimps, squid and small fishes from the intertidal down to roughly 280 metres. It bears litters of three to five pups, each around 20 centimetres at birth, and takes to captivity readily.
