A bottom dwelling smoothhound of the southeast Pacific, it favours rocky ground around islands out on the continental shelf down past 200 metres. It feeds on crabs, mantis shrimp and small bony fishes and bears litters of up to ten live pups, but heavy fishing has left it critically endangered.
