A ghost shark of the outer shelf and upper slope, it cruises depths down to several hundred metres and crushes crustaceans, shellfish and worms with flat grinding plates instead of teeth. A long whip of a tail trails behind it, and males carry a venomous spine in front of the first dorsal fin.
