A powerful, warm bodied relative of the white shark, the salmon shark keeps its muscles above the temperature of the cold North Pacific water around it, which lets it hunt fast. It reaches about three metres, swims alone or in feeding groups, and chases salmon and other schooling fish from the open sea to just off the beach.
