A small schooling silverside of shallow coastal water, it shoals through bays and estuaries and shrugs off water nearly fresh. Its diet is a grab bag of tiny prey, from copepods and amphipods to insect larvae, worms and even ants washed in from land. A silvery stripe runs the length of its slim body.
