Bright red and shaped like a long ribbon, this bandfish lives in burrows on muddy bottoms down to about 100 metres. It rises tail down out of its hole, hovering vertically to pick plankton drifting overhead, and drops back when disturbed. Small loose groups often share the same patch of seabed.
