One of the most abundant fish on Hawaiian reefs, the saddle wrasse feeds on small bottom animals over coral, rock and rubble, and the young sometimes pick parasites off other fish. Males in their bold terminal colours grow much larger than the females they spawn with. It reaches about 28 centimetres in clear lagoon and seaward water.
