A heavy kob that can top two metres, it ranges from estuaries and the surf zone out to depths of twenty to forty metres and grows more common toward the warmer waters of northern Angola. Like other drums it produces a drumming call with its swim bladder, and so little is settled about its numbers that its conservation status remains undetermined.
