A large grouper found only around the Galapagos and nearby waters, the sailfin haunts lava ridges, rock walls and vertical reef structure. Adults are mostly fish eaters that take bigger prey as they grow, while young fish shelter in lagoons, mangroves and even inland lava ponds. Heavily fished and now Endangered, it grows to about 120 centimetres.
