A grouper of rocky shallows in the Gulf of California, growing to about eighty six centimetres. Adults hunt schooling herring and anchovies, feeding hardest at dawn and dusk with a burst of activity about twenty minutes after sunset, while juveniles forage on small bottom prey through the day.
