A slim sand dweller, this whiting keeps close to the seabed over sandy ground, working the surf zone of beaches and the quiet water of bays. Young fish gather in the shallows among drifts of dead seaweed in spring and summer off Western Australia. It is trawled offshore to at least 55 metres and reaches about 33 centimetres.
