Schooling in large numbers over mud, sandy mud and rock near shore, the red barracuda hunts other fish with the lean, torpedo build typical of its family. It stays shallow, mostly between 3 and 6 metres, and grows to about half a metre. Despite the barracuda name it poses no threat to divers.
