Flat and tongue shaped, this sole lies on muddy and sandy bottoms of the continental shelf down to about 125 metres and pushes up into estuaries and tidal rivers. Both eyes sit on one side of its body, the result of a dramatic reshaping as the larva settles to the bottom. It feeds on small animals living in the sediment and grows to about 40 centimetres.
