A long tongue shaped flatfish, it lies on sand and mud in coastal waters and slips into estuaries and even fresh lagoons. Both eyes sit on one side of its flattened body as it hunts shellfish, shrimp, crabs and small fish along the seabed. It is sold frozen as sole.
