No bigger than a fingernail at two centimetres, this pygmy seahorse lives only on Muricella seafans, with as many as twenty eight pairs crowded onto a single colony. Its warty skin and stubby snout match the host's polyps so exactly that the first ones were spotted only after the gorgonian was collected.
