A croaker of muddy and sandy coastal bottoms and estuaries, where it forms schools and uses these waters as nursery and feeding grounds. Young fish take burrowing crustaceans and boring mollusks while adults work the bottom and sometimes catch fish. It reaches about sixty centimetres and is an important food fish.
