A heavy bodied sculpin of inshore rocky and sandy ground, the buffalo sculpin grazes mainly on algae but will also take shrimps, crabs, mussels and small fish. Knobby skin and a broad head help it blend against the bottom. It grows to about 37 centimetres in cool Pacific waters.
