This small ray hunts along the soft bottoms of continental and island shelves, sucking worms and other invertebrates straight off the sand. Like other electric rays it can deliver a jolt from organs in its disc, though the charge is mild. The female gives birth to as many as sixteen pups, each only about nine centimetres long.
