A silvery coastal fish of bays, lagoons and estuaries, the ladyfish often gathers around mangroves and runs short distances into fresh water. It is a strong, fast swimmer that hatches as a ribbon like, transparent larva much like an eel's before changing into the adult form. It reaches about 1.2 metres.
