This brotula tucks into caves and crevices of rocky reefs, a secretive cusk eel relative with a tapering, scaleless body. It releases oval eggs that drift at the surface in a floating jelly mass. Reported to reach at least 75 centimetres, though most encounters are with far smaller fish.
