The batfish walks rather than swims, pushing across sand, rubble and seagrass on stubby armlike fins, with a small fishing lure tucked above its mouth. It lives from the water's edge down to roughly 275 metres and eats shellfish, crabs, small fish and worms. So unbothered by people that it can sometimes be picked up by hand.
