Freshwater Sole

Trinectes fluviatilis

Freshwater Sole

A tiny flatfish barely longer than a thumb, this sole lies camouflaged on muddy estuary bottoms and readily pushes up into fresh water. It is a genuinely rare catch, both eyes set on one side of its body as it hugs the floor.
