A robust parrotfish of shallow coastal reefs in the eastern Pacific, the bumphead parrotfish here named scrapes coralline red algae and probably coral polyps from the substrate with its fused beak. It gathers in small groups over the reef and develops a swollen forehead with age, reaching about seventy five centimetres.
