This weakfish hunts fishes, crabs and shrimps over sand and mud from the shoreline out to about 60 metres, rarely venturing shallower than 18. Juveniles grow up in river estuaries. A high yielding spawner, it is an important food fish reaching nearly 60 centimetres.
