A heavy bodied snapper that reaches a full metre, the mullet snapper hangs over hard inshore reef bottoms, where adults can gather in schools of several hundred. Juveniles tuck into shallow tide pools and estuaries. It hunts fish and invertebrates and lives down to about 60 metres.
