A small sandlance that swims in tight schools of twenty five to thirty, this fish hangs over rippled sand and can change direction in an instant, every individual turning in unison. Larger pelagic fish such as trevallies hunt them. It grows to only about thirteen centimetres in the waters around Pitcairn.
