The Formosa swellshark hunts across rocky reefs and muddy bottoms down to several hundred metres, taking a wide menu of bony fish along with the odd squid, ray or moray. When threatened it gulps water to swell its body and wedge itself into a crevice, and it lays its young in tough egg cases.
