A damselfish of sandy lagoon and seaward reef, usually below 20 metres, where it gathers in small groups around soft coral patches and gorgonians to pick zooplankton from the current. Active by day, it nests on the bottom and the male guards the eggs. It reaches about eleven centimetres.
