One of the rarest sharks in the world, the Ganges shark is a true river shark of turbid tropical waters and muddy estuaries, its tiny eyes hinting at a life in near darkness. It bears live young, with newborns about 56 to 61 centimetres long, and adults reach over two metres. Critically endangered and potentially dangerous, it has long been confused with the bull shark.
