A deepwater angelfish of outer reef slopes and steep drop offs, the Griffis angelfish picks at sponges and tunicates as it moves alone or in small groups. It is uncommon to rare and only occasionally reaches the aquarium trade. It grows to about 30 centimetres and ranges down past 100 metres.
