A goatfish that trails a pair of sensory barbels beneath its chin, sweeping them through silt and mud near reefs to flush out hidden prey. It tends to live deeper than many of its kin, especially in warmer seas, down to around 200 metres. The reddish body with a yellow side stripe gives it its name.
