A pair of long sensory barbels under the chin let this goatfish taste the seabed as it works sandy and weedy bottoms of lagoon and seaward reefs. It feeds mainly on crustaceans and worms turned up from the sand. Usually seen alone though often with others nearby, it reaches about 40 centimetres.
