Deep and disc shaped with a sickle of trailing fins, this sicklefish moves in groups over sandy and muddy bottoms off West Africa, mostly between twenty and fifty metres. It feeds on fish eggs, bottom invertebrates and detritus, and enters coastal lagoons as it matures. It grows to about forty five centimetres.
