A slender wrasse of coral rich lagoon and seaward reefs, it cruises alone cracking open hard shelled mollusks, crustaceans and sea urchins. It sometimes shadows a roving group of goatfish, using their disturbance to flush out prey, and grows to around 40 centimetres.
