A native Hawaiian fish at home in both salt and fresh water, the flagtail moves between the sea, estuaries and streams through its life, a pattern written into the chemistry of its ear bones. It feeds on small fish, invertebrates and insects, and matures at around eighteen centimetres. Anglers take it on hook and line baited with bread or shrimp.
