This stingray gathers in greatest numbers near the coast where rivers pour freshwater into the sea, off Sumatra and Kalimantan. It reaches about 45 centimetres across and is endangered, caught by bottom trawls and gillnets for its meat. Newborns measure only around 13 centimetres wide.
